When @charles_dowding himself tells you that you’d better hurry up and get your broad beans in the ground, there’s only one thing to do: grab your dibber and get sowing! 🌱👍🌱 How do you make a vertical wall a biodiverse paradise for wildlife and a beautiful feature? Add climbers! These provide food (nectar and pollen for insects, berries for birds and small mammals), shelter and even a stage for microbial life. Add a nest box or two. Make the most of your vertical possiblities. Here is my nature-friendly wall planting scheme: Probably the most dangerous plant in my garden, but what a beauty…even before she puts out her dark mysterious hooded flowers, she exudes a femme fatale vibe. The vernal equinox - the official start of spring - brings with it fresh hope and a wonderful green harvest of fresh growth from wild garlic, or ail des ours (bear’s garlic) as it’s known here 🐻 - from the Latin: Allium ursinum And sow it begins! Spring 2023 outdoor sowing has begun at my plot. Together with my super keen and enthusiastic workshop students 💪 we planted a fresh no-dig bed of dwarf peas intercropped with radishes. Exciting 😀 My first veg growing workshop of the year kicks off this afternoon 😀 Marking the moment when the sun is high enough in the sky to swing round the side of the house and hit the terrace at tea time 🫖 One of my favourite moments in spring. Fellow allotmenteers, a question for you. Do you like getting advice from fellow allotment keepers? Understand the biology of your soil and you have the key to growing healthy plants. Industrial agriculture got it so wrong. Fascinating stuff from the #soilregensummit2023
