With space often being limited, every design decision matters when it comes to balconies. I can help you transform your space into a verdant sanctuary, with plant choices that compliment your style and handle the conditions.
Forest balcony : Brussels city centre
This shady balcony terrace has a forest ambiance, echoing the beautiful mature trees that surround the site. Tall rustic timber containers were planted up with evergreen Camellias, which provide year-round screening from the garages to the side of the building, and add interest and scent in winter. Architectural shade-tolerant plants with dramatic leaves, such as hostas, bergenia and ferns add texture and interest. The space has a green, calm and lush vibe.

Mediterranean vibes: Rue Molière
This hot, sunny and windy balcony faces south, creating tough conditions for many plants. The ideal solution was to choose Mediterranean plants, which cope with these conditions well. Herbs such as rosemary, thyme and sage not only look good together, but are also handy for the kitchen which opens out onto the balcony. We made the most of this very narrow space, just 1.2M wide, by planting into containers on the window ledges and balcony railing, as well as adding climbing jasmine trained up vertical wires to provide privacy from the road all year round, as well as a green view from the living room windows. A colour scheme of cool blues, whites and lilacs compliments the modern, white walls and tiling, and also helps to cool the space down visually, while drought tolerant plants in pots, such as Eucalyptus and the tea tree shrub originating from New Zealand, add an architectural element.

La campagne en ville : Brussels city centre
The young professional living in this city centre apartment wanted to recreate a French country vibe, to remind her of home. A very tall brick wall to one side, while quite attractive, dominated the space, so we softened it with an evergreen jasmine, which has the bonus of adding scent during the summer months. Plants were chosen for their soft, romantic qualities: roses, geraniums tumbling generously out of containers, tall and airy Verbena and herbs for the kitchen. The space feels coherent and harmonious.
